Handle Hygiene,
keeps door handles clean

No matter who touched it last.

Due to the ever increasing resistance of microorganisms to traditional methods of treatment, infection control and prevention is more important than ever.

According to the World Health Organisation, most Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI’s) are caused by germs transmitted from healthcare providers’ hands to patients when providing care.

Contaminated surfaces are greatly responsible for the spread of germs on healthcare professionals’ hands. Door handles, in particular, are a well-documented breeding ground for pathogens. They are a high risk common contact surface facilitating the transmission of germs throughout a facility.

The uniqueness of this device is that it is a simple mechanical operation and does not require power or any external source to run.

It is an involuntary action (cannot be stopped) with energy created by the closing motion of the door delivering, (through an atomizer) tiny particles of sanitiser onto the contact surface area of most types of door handles as well as a small amount onto the persons hand leaving the handle safer for users to touch.

Key points to remember....

  • Uses a simple atomising pump
No harmful aerosols, which can cause damage to the human respiratory system
  • No alcohol on the door
Which is regarded as a Fire Hazard
  • Operates automatically
Guaranteed to work each time the door is used, involuntary action therefore not reliant on human effort, resulting in extreme effectiveness
  • Extremely cost-effective
Operates when required, and only when required. If the door is used 100 times a day, it works 100 times a day, if the door is used once a day, it only works once a day.
  • Self-financing
If it only prevents cross-contamination by one case per year, it more than pays for itself, by reducing, sick leave from the workplace, food poisoning in a restaurant, hospital-acquired infection, etc.
  • Highly visible hygiene statement
Demonstrates management’s commitment to the provision of a clean and safe environment for staff, clients and visitors alike.
  • Prevention is always better than cure
toilet doors in any location where there are multi-use facilities are a well-documented source of cross-contamination, with germs like the common cold and the flu virus capable of surviving on them for several days.
  • The passive spread of sanitising fluid
While the purpose of the mechanism is primarily to ensure that the door handle is safe to touch, an added advantage is that people who touch the handle are guaranteed to get traces of the sanitising fluid onto their hands that they would not otherwise have
  • Low maintenance
The simplicity of the product makes it very easy to install and ensures that no maintenance is required, you simply change the cartridge

We offer a simple and effective means to deliver a pulse of disinfectant to the handle each time the door closes, after each time the handle is re-contaminated.

Here's What People Are Saying
Beacon Hospital Door handles are frequently touched by hands which may be contaminated by bacteria or viruses particularly in areas such as bathrooms.

This leads the door handle to act as a reservoir for infections. By using the Handle Hygiene system, the hospital is reducing the risk of contamination of door handles and subsequently hands, thereby protecting the patients and healthcare workers.

The design of the Handle Hygiene is simple where the disinfectant is released automatically onto the door handle once the door is closed (without the use of batteries or power supply), ensuring a clean handle for the next person.

The Handle Hygiene was introduced to our staff at World Hand Hygiene Day in May 2015 and received a very positive response from staff. The introduction of the Handle Hygiene system is an exciting new infection prevention and control initiative and supports our program for reducing healthcare associated infections.

At the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital, we appreciate the importance of good hygiene and in our efforts to achieve the highest possible standards, we consider it important to evaluate the efficacy of innovative hygiene products that are presented to us from time to time.

It was with this in mind, that we decided to test the Handle Hygiene Sanitizing System, a simple mechanical mechanism that operates with the opening / closing of the door and atomizes a light mist of sanitizing fluid onto the door handle, killing germs and reducing the risk of cross contamination, especially onto clean hands, the bedrock of good hygiene.

The test results and the positive feedback from staff, patients and visitors alike, ensured we proceeded further and we have subsequently introduced the system in a number of strategic locations throughout the hospital. Given the results of the tests carried out on the door handles within our Hospital, I would recommend the use of the Handle Hygiene Sanitizing System in all Heath Care facilities or indeed in any premises where hygiene is paramount.

Why Handle Hygiene
Intelligence For Life
Published 15th January 2015 – One door handle can infect pretty much everyone who walks into a building within a matter of hours. That’s according to microbiologist, Dr. Charles Gerba from the University of Arizona. His team tested this by placing a harmless virus on the door of a building’s entrance and Dr. Gerba found that swab tests showed that 60% of people had the virus on their hands within a few hours.

  • The sanitiser bottle is easily installed inside the case and replaced once empty without any need to unscrew or dismantle the unit so there is no maintenance required on either the unit or the sanitiser bottle and therefore no additional workload will be required by on-site staff.
  • As the refill cartridge is a consumable product and acknowledging the recent upsurge in the campaign for climate change awareness and the impact of plastics on the environment, Clever Hygiene Solutions Ltd purposely chose as part of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) to make our device including the sanitiser cartridge recyclable.
  • Handle Hygiene offers a simple and effective means to deliver a pulse of disinfectant to the handle each time the door closes, after each time the handle is re-contaminated.
